Meet Dr. Kelly Cunningham

Behind the White Coat - Dr. Kelly Cunningham

  1. What do you love about living in Central Texas?

As a fourth-generation Austinite (via East Texas), I came back to Austin after medical training for the natural beauty and the people.

In 27 years of practice, I have never regretted that decision, truly enjoying caring for the patients of Central Texas and their sports medicine and joint injuries in a way that I would want to be treated myself.

  2. How would you describe your personality?

As a fourth-generation Austinite (via East Texas), I came back to Austin after medical training for the natural beauty and the people.

In 27 years of practice, I have never regretted that decision, truly enjoying caring for the patients of Central Texas and their sports medicine and joint injuries in a way that I would want to be treated myself.

  3. What was the most influential moment you experienced during medical school or residency that has resonated with you since?

I chose orthopedic sports medicine as my vocation in medicine after working closely with the Dallas Cowboys and the US ski team. Team physicians for those professional athletes were mentors to me in my training.

Austin and central Texas are active outdoor areas, and I enjoy being able to help people return to their active lifestyles using regenerative sports medicine

  4. Are there any charities that you're passionate about?  I am active in the Arthritis Foundation, as the search for better treatments and cures involves research in my area of expertise, stem cell and biologic medicine.

  5. What is something that most people don't know about you? My wife and I have a passion for travel and snow skiing, having raised four children in a wonderful 30 year marriage.
