Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for Knee and Joint Arthritis – New Findings and Results
Recent orthopedic studies have brought to light interesting issues about the use of PRP in regenerative sports medicine, for knee and joint arthritis.
This important PRP injection therapy news benefits over 40 million arthritis sufferers in the US!
Brian Cole, MD and others at Rush Medical Center in Chicago have recently published a study that compares the value of platelet plasma injection (PRP) and Hyaluronic acid (HA “lubricant”) injections.
Injections were given to a controlled 100+ patient group having arthritic knee pain, observing results over a 6 & 12 month time period. While both injection therapy treatments offer pain relief for knee arthritis symptoms , PRP injection results lasted longer, as well as suppressed inflammation markers found in the joint fluid of the knee.
In another recently published study, PRP demonstrates natural antibiotic, bacteria-resistant properties. In other words, unlike steroids, HA and other injections in the knee and joints to relieve pain, there is minimal risk of certain side effects (such as infection) from your own blood-derived growth factors in PRP, a significant plus to this form of in-office therapy.
Dr.Cunningham has never had an infection or major side effect from PRP biologic/cell therapy injection in his practice.
Dr Kelly Cunningham and Austin Ortho+Biologics have offered this treatment to his patients in Austin, in addition to Stem Cell treatment, for over three years, with many success stories!
